In 2014, African leaders and civil society continued to work for the attainment of secure land rights for women, men and communities, recognizing that secure rights are an essential foundation to inclusive economic development. As Mukhtar Diop, World Bank Vice President for Africa, has said, “Improving land governance is vital for achieving rapid economic growth and translating it into significantly less poverty and more opportunity for Africans.”
